How to hide a file/ folder in Android

We often share our smartphone with people for many reasons. At the same time, we are thinking about our privacy of the content on the phone. For an Android user, many applications are available on the Google Play Store that can be used to hide files and folders.
However, there is a simple solution for you if you don’t want to install any new application to protect your data. I’m going to tell a simple trick for hiding files and folders on Android without installing a third party application.

Requirements

• Android Phone
• File Manager
• General Skill

NOTE: Rooting is not necessary

Steps to hide a file

1. Open the file manager.
2. Navigate to the file which you want to hide.
3. Tap and hold the file to select it.
4. Now tap on the 3 dots menu and choose rename option.
5. Add . (dot) in front of the file name.
6. Tap on OK button.
7. Voila!!!!!!!! Your file is now hidden.

Steps to hide a folder

1. Open the file manager.
2. Navigate to the folder which you want to hide.
3. Tap and hold the file to select it.
4. Now tap on the 3 dots menu and choose rename option.
5. Add . (dot) in front of the folder name.
6. Tap on OK button.
7. Voila!!!!!!!! Your folder is now hidden.

Steps to Access the hidden file/ folder

1. Simply navigate to the location where your file/ folder is hidden.
2. Tap on 3 dot menu.
3. Choose Show Hidden Files.
4. Now you can easily access the hidden file/ folder.

Steps to Unhide the file/ folder

1. Navigate to the location where the file/ folder is hidden.
2. Open the 3 dot menu.
3. Choose Show hidden Files.
4. Tap and hold on the file/ folder to select it.
5. Click on 3 dot menu and choose rename option.
6. Remove the . (dot)  from the file/ folder name.
7. Now your file/ folder is back to normal.

NOTE: Don't forget to Hide your hidden files/ folders by selecting Hide hidden files from the 3 dot menu before passing your device to others. The file(s)/ folder(s) hidden using this method will be hidden from gallery or any other app. But they are visible on a computer or laptop if show hidden files is enabled in pc/ laptop.
